HERstory has been made: King of Queens 2016
May 3, 2016
Here it is folks: HERstory has been made.

On Sunday, May 1st 11 contestants, whom had never performed in Drag, broke all records in the 6th Annual King of Queens’s fundraising competition supporting AIDS Care Ocean State. This event is what community support and advocacy looks like at its best and the agency is humbled and in awe of what you were ALL able to accomplish that evening. Six years ago- philanthropist, volunteer and outstanding community member, Alysha Brock, and the iconic Kitty Litter created King of Queens. Since its inception, the event has grown exponentially each year and has become a staple event for our community.

The competition, the individual fundraising campaigns and the friend/family support was the fiercest we’ve ever seen.  AIDS Care Ocean State is incredibly proud to announce the grand total raised to support our programs and services was just over $40,000. The contestants themselves raised 32K of that total collectively.

Let’s just take a moment to let that sink in. 40K.
That is $13,000 more than last year’s record breaking total. That. Is. Amazing.
That is free HIV/HCV testing for our community. That is FREE safer sex supplies. That is IDU support services and clean supplies. That is housing for those living with HIV/AIDS and case management support. That is rides to doctor appointments, and clinical services.

We have many people to congratulate and to thank for this unprecedented and phenomenal evening.

Firstly, thank you to our Hostess with the Mostess, Genesis, for a wonderful evening.

Stacy Iasimone, AKA Wilma Finga-Do, from the Village, supported by her Drag Mother, LaDiva Jonz, took home the 2016 King of Queens crown and title and raised over $8,000 in her fundraising campaign.Well done Stacy!
