SSTAR's Hitt to be honored for continuing fight against HIV/AIDS
March 24, 2013

If you have a question about HIV or AIDS, need a statistic or have any interest at all in the continuing epidemic, Bob Hitt is your guy.

Hitt, the program director of Project AWARE at Stanley Street Treatment and Resources, will be honored with the first Sister Ann Keefe AIDS Care Ocean State Award at the organization’s Southern New England HIV/AIDS Pathways to Healthy Housing Conference at the Providence Biltmore Hotel on April 2.

Hitt said he’s likely being recognized because he’s “still here working in the field of HIV.”

“I stumbled in in 1985 and haven’t left,” Hitt said.

Hitt started with AIDS Project Rhode Island and came to SSTAR as a councilor in 1989. He has been the program director since 1997.

AIDS Care Ocean State said Hitt is receiving the award because he’s an expert in his field and for his dedication and service to people living with HIV/AIDS.
